Part I- Points 
 

Each Trimester, students earn points in the following categories:
Lessons- 40 Possible points 
Concert Band - 45 Possible points 
Trimester Project- 10 Possible points 
For more specific information on how these points are earned, refer to the grading section in the WSR 7-8 Band Handbook

Part II- Standards

 

Grade reports in 7th and 8th grade band will consist of 1) a points-based letter grade (see "project grid" page) and 2) a mark of 1, 2, or 3 based 
on the standards listed below.

WSR 7-8 Band Standards:  
For each standard listed, students will receive a 3, 2, or 1.  

3= meets standard   2= partially meets standard  1= does not meet standard


 

Standard 1: Skillful Musician

1.1   Demonstrates appropriate posture and playing position

1.2   Demonstrates correct fingerings/stickings

1.3   Performs musical notation accurately (notes/rhythms)

1.4   Produces characteristic tone quality for instrument

1.5   Articulates notes properly

 

Standard 2: Knowledgeable Musician

2.1   Identifies note names accurately

2.2   Identifies rhythms accurately

2.3  Understands and uses appropriate musical terminology

 

Standard 3: Reliable/Responsible Musician

3.1   Attends lessons promptly and with all materials(9 per trimester, up to 5 pts. each)

3.2   Demonstrates adequate practice for lessons

3.3   Demonstrates appropriate rehearsal habits: punctuality, materials, effort

3.4   Attends required performances
          (3=attends all  1=does not attend all required performances)

3.5   Completes Trimester Project
